Creating positive pathways

September 1, 2011 by Dr. Jason Berman

When we focus excessively on the negative parts of our lives we can start to make grooves in our brains that make it easier the next time to experience those negative thoughts. While we should have space to discuss openly our negative feelings (e.g. therapy), it also helps our overall happiness to identify things that we are grateful for. We want our brains to have grooves for the positive especially as a way to develop resilience to life’s stressors. Honesty about all feelings and gratitude for what is good will take you far.
